APHI Statement

APHI is a diversified non-profit alliance of service providers, inspectors, educators, companies, associations, and consumer interest groups related to the home inspection industry.

The following represents Home Owner consumer rights supported by the Alliance for Professional Home Inspectors (APHI).

Our beliefs and common interests are to establish and protect Home Owner consumer rights to:

1. receive home inspection services from a home inspector whose expertise and professional qualifications are based on education, examination, and on-going training;
2. receive a written service agreement for the home inspection services purchased, in advance of a providing the service, which defines the scope of the inspection and the rights and obligations of the third parties;
3. receive a comprehensive written report on the material findings of the home inspection services purchased;
4. attend and observe the home inspection services purchased;
5. be made aware of any financial incentives received by a home inspector or home inspection company from others;
6. purchase goods and services beyond the home inspection from or through a home inspector or a home inspection company, in a manner compliant with consumer protection and privacy laws, and the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act* (RESPA).

*The Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA) is a Federal consumer protection law that provides consumer protection for real estate services.
